OSSO @45 Gold Awards Recipients


GOLD AWARD CITATION

1. MR. GILBERT ODIOR

For influencing the decision of ESSO OIL PRODUCING COMPANY to site the well-equipped Esso Building, housing the Senior Secondary School, in Ogbona, as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility. 

Mr. Odior was a Senior Manager of ESSO at the time (see history of Ogbona for more details).

2. OGBONA ELITES FORUM

For employing and paying the salaries of the Community Teachers since 2016. 

They also contributed in many other ways to the development of the school (see history of Ogbona Secondary School for the list of support from Ogbona Elites Forum).

3. OGBONA SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL MANAGEMENT BOARD (OGBONA SMB)

For their revolutionary interventions in Ogbona Secondary School from 2022. Their achievements literally transformed the School, and are captured in their Performance Report of 2022 to 2024 and 2024 to Date. (see history of Ogbona Secondary School for the list of accomplishments of Ogbona SMB)

4. CHIEF DAN OSI ORBIH

Among his other contributions to the School, Chief Orbih generously donated towards the construction of the perimeter fencing of the vast School lands, knowing the importance of securing the school lands to keep the students and staff safe. He also Co-facilitated the fundraising efforts during the opening of the School Ultra modern Auditorium. 

Chief Orbih has always shown willingness to lend a helping hand whenever called upon, following in the footsteps of his father late Chief MCK Orbih, one of the Founders of the School.

5. MRS. JOAN AMANESI EGWUONWU

For her unrelenting effort towards the development of the school. 

Firstly, as the lead of the Class of 1993 that constructed and donated the School Entrance Gate and portions of the front perimeter fence. 

She is also the Chairwoman Award winning Ogbona SMB (see the History of the School for some achievements of Ogbona SMB under her leadership to date.)

6. DR. BENEDICT ITSUOKOR

A member of Ogbona SMB, for his generosity in equipping the Ogbona Secondary School Clinic with modern devices, supply of medications and medical consumables for three years, and contributing substantially to the payment of the salary of the Visiting Doctor

7. Late MR. CHRISTOPHER U. AIKEREMIOKHAI

The First Principal of Ogbona Secondary School is described in superlative terms like ‘indefatigable,’ ‘discipline personified’. As an administrator he was an ‘advocate of quality education’. 

Mr Aikeremiokhai was also called ‘the iron Principal’, who sacrificially laid solid foundations for the students and the school. He promoted discipline and academic excellence.

8. Late CHIEF James O. ODALUMHE (Founding Father)

According to records, Chief Odalumhe, one of the founders of the School, was the man on ground who personally saw to it that everything worked out well during the construction of the school. 

He worked with his heart to ensure the project was completed in time and commissioned. 

As the first parents teachers association (PTA) Chairman from 1980 to 1988, he resumed and closed with students daily. Chief Odalumhe provided leadership, with his strong personality, organized men, materials and money, all in ensuring timely accomplishment of the task of having superb structures in the school.

9. Late CHIEF Thomas A OSIGBEMHE (Founding Father)

According to records, until 1979 all Ogbona sons and daughters attended post primary school outside of Ogbona. But as fate would have it, Chief T. A. Osigbemhe became the Permanent Secretary in the then Bendel State (now Edo state) Ministry of Education. 

He helped create synergy and channelled all the demands and concerns to the appropriate authority for quick and positive response. 

He also played an important part in the request for 200 hectares of land that included plan for future development including the school lands.

10. PETER OMOH DUNIA ESQ.

For his outstanding contributions to infrastructure development of the School, including the Ultra Modern Ibrahim Lamorde Hall and Outdoor Sports Center, etc. 

He also donated towards the Class of 1993 Project, and attracted funds for recruitment of eight Teachers on a two (2) years contract, alongside other consequential donations by his Associates towards the development of the School in the last four (4) years.

11. CHIEF DR. ABU INU-UMORU

For his contributions towards the fencing of the expansive school lands during the Class of 1993 legacy Project. Chief Abu Inu Umoru, the Executive Chairman of Setraco Nigeria Limited, has a history with the school, dating from his father Late Chief Inu Umoru, who donated generously in 1980 fundraising towards the construction the School building. 

Dr. Abu Inu-Umoru has consistently demonstrated strong affiliation to the School and Ogbona Town.

12. BUA CEMENT PLC. OKPELLA

For their welcoming of the Class of 2025 to a tour of their facility at Okpella, which the students found invaluable as they hatch their future plans and aspirations. 

This kind gesture in the process triggered a relationship with the BUA PLC that we believe will be beneficial for our School. the Group MD Engr. Yusuf Haliru Binji and the General Manger of Okpella Plant have shown keen interest, as we approach them to contribute towards our Anniversary Project of Construction of Six Flats Residential Building for our School Staff.

13. OGBONA SECONDARY SCHOOL CLASS OF1993

For their audacious pioneering efforts in triggering infrastructural development in Ogbona Secondary School, with the construction of the impressive School Ambiance Entrance Gate, and portions of the Front Perimeter Fence in 2021.

14. MR. BRUCE JAMES WEINERT

Mr. Weinert of Ontario Canada involvement in the school started when he saw a video of the dilapidated school Hall through his work colleague Mrs Joan Amanesi Egwuonwu, and promised to assist towards the repairs. His first donation however was towards the fundraising for the 10kva Solar Equipment that services the Senior Secondary School. 

With his awareness of the insecurity challenges in Nigeria, and the need to keep the students safe, he donated towards  the fencing of the vast school lands. 

During the Class of 2025 Graduation, he sponsored the Role Model Award in memory of his mother Mary Verbena McGivney Weinert, which came with a brand-new Laptop Computer. He has raised the possibility of sustaining the Award for the foreseeable future. 

This 45th Anniversary Gold Award is our token of appreciation for his generous giving to a far-flung land, where he has neither roots nor relatives.

15. PA JOHN ENEZUNO ASEKOMHE

According to records, Pa Asekomhe was the Chairman of the 10 Member Committee responsible for the planning, coordination & fundraising for the establishment of Ogbona Secondary School.

16. PA ALFRED ENETOMHE IDODE

According to records, Pa Idode was the Secretary of the 10 Member Committee responsible for the planning, coordination and fundraising for the establishment of Ogbona Secondary School.
